The Artist
Shannon Rochon is a born and bred Montrealer from Quebec, Canada. She started down the artistic path very
early in her life and chose to become a Vet. I know, you're all thinking...a VET?!? What does a vet have to
do with art? Well, art to her was a fun thing to do; she didn't really think she'd be anything more than a
hobbyist. Little did she know that art is like a drug; that once exposed to artistic teaching, there is no
going back.
She was first introduced to Fine Arts in College as a secondary course. She had chosen to study Health
Science to further her career goals. Well, it soon became apparent that she was enjoying her single art
class FAR more than anything else in her schedule. At the end of that single term in Health Science, she
chose to enroll in Fine Arts which she completed. It wasn't enough. She felt that there was so much involved
in Art and that she had only scratched the surface. She also felt that Fine Arts didn't make use of the more
technical side of her wide-ranging talents and that she had so much more to discover about what she could do.
She chose to enroll in Interior Design as she had always had an interest in creating worlds with which people
could surround themselves (an interest she still holds). While in Interior Design, she stumbled across
another technical program called Illustration & Design. She met the students and the teachers and saw the
beautiful art that they were all creating and once again made a decision. Interior Design was great, but
just as Fine Arts didn't explore the technical aspects of her talent, Interior Design didn't really make
much use of her need to paint and draw...at least not enough to her liking. She left Interior Design a year
and a half into the program and enrolled in Illustration & Design. What a pivotal moment! Her crude
understanding of art was refined and her technical capabilities were allowed to bloom. She learned how to
combine her artistic multiple personality to the very best effect. She grew not only in art, but as a person
and she will never forget the wonderful people she had the honor and privilege to study with.
Shannon has completed commissions in both traditional and digital media. Her favorite genres are Fantasy
and Portraiture (both human and animal) and she loves Character Design. She knows how to use a wide range of
mediums and she truly believes that she can do anything with any medium. She is also a Mary Kay Independent
Beauty Consultant and so she has discovered one more canvas to work with; the human face. As a result,
make-up artistry is also an interest. She has resently chosen to pursue her Mary Kay Business full-time and
is working her way to directorship.
Shannon's artistic goal is to become more familiar with digital mediums on the market and to take in more
commissions. She loves web design and would like to update her coding knowledge. She would love to explore
the world of free-lance and would love to work with other artists to create Characters for video-games.
Aside from art, she loves to read and has a fascination with online games and computer games...especially
the RPG variety. She loves to cook and eat. She would like to thank her wonderful boyfriend Mike, her best-friends Sal,
Terrie, Stephanie, Denise, Kris and Michele, the Champlain gang, and her wonderful mother and sister for their continuous support,
encouragement and love. Her friends and family are amazing people! She lives with her beloved cats, Kaleeka,
Jessica and August.
